2018/19 Football League Predictions

8/2/2018

The 2018/19 Football League season gets underway this weekend with the opening round of fixtures in the Championship, League 1 & League 2.
We take a look at some of the outright winner ante-post markets and make our predictions for the upcoming season.
In the Championship, the 3 sides relegated from the Premier League last season are all, rather unsuprisingly- toward the top of the market with Stoke starting the season as 5/1favourites, West Brom are 15/2 & Swansea the biggest price of the trio at 12/1.
However, our main fancy to win the Championship are MIDDLESBROUGH. Tony Pulis guided Boro to the play-offs last season, having taken over from Garry Monk mid-way through the season. They’ve strengthened defensively over the Summer, signing centre-back pairing Aden Flint & Paddy McNair. At 8/1, they make plenty of appeal to us.

In League 1, much the same as the Championship, last seasons relegated sides are to the fore of the market with SUNDERLAND inevitably clear favourites to make an immediate return to England’s second tier.

The Black Cats have a new owner, new manager and altogether new outlook on football this season.

Jack Ross, formerly of St Mirren, was appointed over the Summer and he has recruited well, signing the highly regarded Dylan McGeouch from Hibernian as well Charlie Wyke from Bradford who notched 12-times in League 1 last season. The 3/1 on offer looks perfectly fair.
Last but by no means least, in League 2 this season. MK DONS have endured a fall from grace, dropping from the Championship to League 2 in the space of 3-years and have gone through no fewer than 6 managers during that period.
However, in Paul Tisdale they have appointed a man who certainly knows his way around the division- as well as a cravat. Tisdale spent 12-years in charge of Exeter and guided the Grecians to a play-off final last year.

The Dons have retained the majority of their squad from last year as well as bringing in 7 new faces, inc. former Exeter trio Jordan Moore-Taylor, Robbie Simpson & Ryan Harley.

MK Dons are 6/1 joint-favourites to be crowned champions in League 2.
Championship - Middlesbrough
League 1 - Sunderland
League 2 - MK Dons

Treble returns 200+/1!

Football is a sport where any team can win. I mean, unlike basketball, football really puts an emphasis on team play rather than individual talent. In basketball, the talented team would always win, however, in football, the most hard working ones are often rewarded. This is what makes football a lot more interesting. Trying to predict who would win is a hard thing to do. You cannot base your predictions on feelings alone, you need to make highly calculated risks.
